Hometown Glory: FAMU Alum Returns to Promote New Film

Florida A&M University alumnus Amir Windom was the center of attention at a press conference held in The School of Journalism of Graphic Communications Wednesday.

At the conference held in a room full of budding musicians, journalists, photographers and future PR practicioners, FAMU’s student-ran public relations firm, PRecision Communications announced a partnership with Windom and the soon to be released film Restored Me. Windom serves as music supervisor over the film’s soundtrack.

Restored Me focuses on an ex-convict’s quest for normalcy following an eight-year jail sentence. Windom says it’s the message that makes the film something to believe in.

“There’s a message in here for everyone. I think something that this world is missing is faith, and this film can serve as the catalyst for the overall point we’re trying to convey, which is restoring faith. It’s all about touching lives,” Windom said.

Ann Kimbrough, dean of the SJGC at FAMU, was in full support of the special opportunity.

“It is always appreciated when SJGC alumni return to the campus and into the lives of our students in order to provide encouragement and career direction,” Kimbrough said.

During the conference, Windom played three scenes from the film and two songs from the soundtrack. The star studded soundtrack features songs from former “The Voice” contestant Tamara Chauniece, hip-hop star Lecrae, R&B vocal powerhouse Ledisi, and up and coming R&B singer Jacob Latimore.

Jakeira Gilbert, a freshman journalism student from Tallahassee, Fla., was impressed by the songs Windom played at the press conference.

“I think the soundtrack is essential to the success of the movie,” Gilbert said. “The songs I heard fit the theme of the movie perfectly.”

Restored Me is slated for release later this year.
