6 Black-Owned Loungewear Brands to Cozy up in

We’ve all been forced to slow down through these past couple of months because of quarantine. Not only is the fashion world suffering as retail operators, manufactures and stores have since been actively shut down, but consumers have been fed up with Black creatives having their creations utilized by major brands with little to no credit. Yet, one particular branch of fashion has managed to blossom in this all: loungewear. It’s an amazing assortment of clothing that seamlessly combines comfort and style for Zoom conferences and classes or simply lounging around. So, in times of buying Black and social distancing, here are some six Black-owned brands of the new loungewear trend.

SORELLA

SORELLA is a fast-growing fashion online boutique founded by Heather and Brittany Sanders back in 2012. It is affordable and aimed at representing strong working, independent women of all age groups and physiques. The brand stands in favor of women empowerment and drives a platform of making women feel confident in their style. Most notably, the brand has been in works with popular New-York streetwear brand FUBU. The two brands collectively came up with a collection of activewear and lounge sets that took a spin on throwback trends. To date, a lot of their loungewear resembles a chic flair with a dab of vibrant colors.

RE ONA

RE ONA is a brand founded by sisters Philiscia and Christina Abayomi. The London native sisters are upgrading the loungewear trend with the influence of minimal and versatility and an emphasis on quality fabrics.

With the usage of fabrics like spandex and viscose, the brand offers a wide range of luxurious and comfortably polished designs. Their line often expands through bodysuits, dresses and crop tops that can be seen dressed up for girls night on the town or down for a casual cruise around the cirt.

Girl Next Door

Girl Next Door (GND) is a new East Coast hot selling online boutique. The Atlanta-established brand was founded by Synahia Tigner and has set its sights on inspiring women to conquer everyday life with their best fit.

Despite the fact that the brand is known for staple brunch and dinner pieces, they have a nice catalogue of loungewear. GND has an assortment of jogger sets, bodysuits, shorts and tops that’ll be perfect for a day of zoom calls.

Lovello Elizabeth

Lovello Elizabeth is a unisex Philadelphia homegrown brand founded in 2014 by Alnika Lovello. The brand is known for creating a mix between active wear and lounge with a clean-cut Philly swag. Their line has a wide variety of sweat suits, short sets, jogger sets and hoodies. The brand even offers matching sets for that one couple that always has the best “relationship goals” pictures.

ACM is a fairly new brand curated by twin sisters Aneaka and Jamika. These designer sisters aim to design collections with multiple pieces that can be dressed both up and down. They have a neat collection of sweatpants, matching sets, and tops that vary from sheer to cheetah print to spice up that living room fit. The brand’s varying fabric and prints are fun and comfortable enough to wear during the next Instagram live versuz battle, from our couch.

LocalEuropean

LocalEuropean, founded by Los Angeles native Alexandra Burch, is popular for cozy home pieces. The brand’s selection of pieces showcases the current minimalistic and effortless L.A. aesthetic. They offer a variety of simple pieces to a jump in fashion like compression jersey fabrics.

Their most popular items though are their cozy biker shorts that are seen in various colors and their cargo sweats. The brand also advocates for less waste as a lot of their smaller collections are derived from deadstock fabrics from a previous line and offer a sense of exclusivity.
