A Student-Led Initiative 

Venomous Entertainment, a student-led record label at Florida A&M University (FAMU), emerged from a shared desire for collaboration among aspiring musicians. With a focus on networking, creativity, and community engagement, Venomous is dedicated to empowering students like Eymel Gant and Daniel Johnson, helping them navigate the complexities of the music industry. For talented individuals, being part of this vibrant organization provides invaluable personal and professional growth opportunities. 

Mel’s Musical Journey 

From Isolation to Expression

For Eymel Gant, known as Mel, music represents a profound form of self-expression, especially during the isolating days of the COVID-19 pandemic. Growing up in New Orleans—a city steeped in musical tradition—he initially crafted tracks on Bandlab and discovered his passion through collaborative efforts with his friend, Lonzo.  

“Music has always been a way for me to communicate my emotions,” Gant said, emphasizing how this connection became a crucial outlet during difficult times. 

With support from his family and a studio setup gifted by his uncle, Gant began to view music as more than a hobby; it evolved into a pathway to self-discovery and purpose. His journey underscores the therapeutic power of music, offering individuals a way to process emotions and share relatable experiences.

By joining Venomous Entertainment, Mel gains access to a supportive community that encourages him to embrace his unique voice while learning from others, fostering the creativity and innovation essential for any aspiring artist. 

DAJO’s Spiritual Connection to Music

Daniel Johnson, also known as DAJO, perceives music as a spiritual journey. Growing up in a musical family exposed him to a variety of sounds, igniting his passion for writing and production.

“Music has always been a genuine means of creative expression for me,” Johnson said. 

His background in church music deeply influences his artistic vision, inspiring him to spread positivity through his work. 

Building Connections Through Venomous 

Becoming a part of Venomous Entertainment allowed Johnson to connect with fellow creatives who share his passion for music. He values the organization’s emphasis on collaboration, which has motivated him to explore diverse styles and refine his production skills. As a producer, he plays a crucial role in shaping the sound of songs, ensuring that artists’ messages resonate with their audiences. Through Venomous, Johnson has found opportunities to develop his craft while inspiring others to pursue their artistic endeavors. 

Leadership Insights 

Kamryn Jenkins, the president of Venomous Entertainment, emphasizes the necessity of collaboration among students. 

“Many talented individuals are in the same classes but often work in isolation,” Jenkins said. 

Venomous was founded to bridge that gap, fostering connections that are vital for success in the music industry. Jenkins believes that through workshops, showcases, and networking opportunities, students can gain the hands-on experience essential for thriving in a competitive field. 

Maximizing Resources 

Jenkins encourages students to leverage the resources available through Venomous. By participating in events and engaging with fellow artists, students can enhance their skills and expand their networks. She envisions Venomous as a critical steppingstone for aspiring musicians, paving the way for future success. Her commitment to creating a nurturing environment reflects the organization’s mission: to empower students to reach their fullest potential.
