Is $10,000 your cup of tea?
By: Kailyn Rhone
What is a Georgia woman’s favorite cup of tea? Well, this woman’s favorite cup of tea is peach with a side of $10,000. Sha’Riauna Campbell, a first-year business administration student at Florida A&M University from Savannah, Georgia, is one of the top three finalists in a competition for a $10,000 scholarship from Aspire.
The More Than Tea Tour Scholarship caught the attention of many HBCU students around the country on the social media platform Instagram. The scholarship did not require an essay, application, or minimum GPA, only a video about who you are and how this scholarship will aid your dreams.
“When I found out that I was a finalist for the scholarship I was shocked. I was overjoyed that I may get a chance to make my dreams come true sooner than I originally thought,” said Campbell.
In Campbell’s videos, she spoke about how this scholarship will support her dreams of being a founder of a minority youth mentorship and outreach program while she displayed her love for FAMU and Teavana tea with fellow students.
Campbell said that part of her inspiration for this scholarship was getting an invitation from the 113 Miss FAMU, Kyra Freeman, to the More Than Tea Tour at FAMU on Nov. 15, 2019.
“I aspire to inspire. As long as I help at least one person to reach their goal or dream, I know I am fulfilling my purpose,” said Freeman.
Kyra Freeman encourages students to attend events to network and gain opportunities that will help them after their career at the university as well as the presenter of the More than Tea Tour, Patrick Walker-Reese.
Walker-Reese gave the finalists advice on moving forward in the scholarship saying
“We all go through things, we all get down but as long as you let opportunities of tomorrow outweigh the circumstances of today, I think you will always be on a positive brace”
