FAMU Homecoming Fashion Show 2016: Embracing the Rattler Culture

The most anticipated time of the years rapidly approaching, Homecoming season is here! This year’s homecoming lineup is jam packed events such as the traditional Gospel concert, the return of hoops and hip-hop, the grand Homecoming parade, and the highly anticipated Homecoming block party and fashion showcase.
Unlike the premier fashion show in 2013, the show is scheduled to take place in segments during the block party Thursday, October 20th, at the Florida A&M Campus Recreational Field. Embracing the theme of this year’s homecoming, “A Different World” the homecoming block party and fashion show is expected portray the ‘everyday’ rattler in a different light.
“I am the most excited about this year’s block party and fashion show. I love how they combined the two into one great experience the University,” says Emanni Bates, a freshman and model in the fashion show. “I hope that if anything, people see that we have pride in FAMU and our traditions.”
Per tradition, thousand of Rattler fans and Alumni are anticipated to arrive into the City as early as Friday, October 14th. The city will be buzzing with the extra vehicular traffic that the celebrants are expected to bring.
In addition to the FAMU Homecoming Fashion Show, celebrants get to enjoys out the homecoming football game against the Hampton Pirates, the housing step-show as well as the National Pan-Hallenic Council, Inc. Greek step-show and convocation.
Student Government Association Office Assistant, Torrance Davis expressed what he feels is special about this year’s homecoming, “There’s a lot more this year; more to do, more to see for the Rattler Community. Look for some epic things to happen. Be ready!”
“FAMU has its own culture,” explained Fashion Show Chair, James Rozier. “There are three dynamic scenes: Blacks Lives Matter, Emancipation of a Woman/ MAN, and Evolution of a Rattler, which will all translate to this culture and what it means to be a part of the Rattler World.”
