The Biggest Artist in the Whole World

The Moon hosted the Tory Lanez I Told You Tour stop Sunday, Sept. 18. Tory Lanez is best known for several hit singles including “Say It,” “Luv,” and most recently for remixing Drake’s catchy single “Controlla.”
Although early morning Monday classes were threatening the end of a weekend, that did not stop adoring fans from lining up outside of The Moon in anticipation of the brilliant headliner. Lanez, who has named his tour after his debut album, rocked out with local college students with the energy of a major city stop.
As a relatively new artist, Lanez, has stepped into the shadows of the hip hop monster that is Aubrey “Drake” Graham in an attempt to take the sounds of their hometown of Toronto, Ontario global. His much anticipated album, I Told You, dropped August 19 after Lanez dropped a surprise track named for the release date on his HotNewHipHop series Fargo Fridays. Since then he has launched his North American and European nonstop tour which recently sold out in Vancouver and will continue on into late December.
The tour, which has over 50 North American stops, with more being added internationally and daily, features opening acts Kranium, known for his two hit singles “We Can” feat. Lanez himself and “Nobody Has to Know,” and young R&B sensation Jacquees, known for his 2014 hit single “Come Thru.” Both performed in Tallahassee warming up the crowd with catchy Caribbean vibes and smooth dance numbers.
“My name is Daystar Peterson. One day I’m a be the biggest artist in the whole world,” are the opening words by Lanez for the incredibly high energy tour and from the first track of the instant hit album.
Lanez was a fearless performing, quickly jumping into the crowd to surf and inviting his audience to come closer in attempts to make this one of the most interactive concerts The Moon has seen. Lanez performed numerous songs off of his new album as well as old ones including “Diego,” a slow, deep bass track laced with drug-smuggling references.
Several women including Denise Phillips, a Tallahassee Community College student from St. Petersburg, Fla. were ecstatic that heartthrob Lanez made a stop in Tallahassee.
“I love him. We love him. I’m so glad he thought to make a stop in Tallahassee,” Phillips said excitedly after the concert.
Her best friend, Ashley Aquil, a Florida State student also from St. Petersburg, found herself mostly speechless and giggling uncontrollably before, during and after the concert.
Luckily, Lanez stayed after his concert not only to do an encore of his top hit “Luv,” but also invited audience members to a small after party filled with photo ops and candid conversation with the “rapper turnt singer” performer.
