The Florida A&M University student body will be gearing up to celebrate the 130th Anniversary of their alma mater beginning October 8, 2017.
Homecoming is a special time for Rattlers to unite and fellowship with one another in an atmosphere surrounded by entertainment, opportunity and food. It is not only a time to enjoy the festivities, it is a time to enjoy each other and spend time with Rattler Alumni.
The FAMU Student Government Association will be hosting the “Taste of a Rattler” event on Wednesday, October 11 from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m. in the Gaither Gym Parking Lot.
The BET Lounge will be present serving as a co-sponsor, alongside FAMU DJ, DJ Loosekid.
“We want the students to be catered to,” Event chairman and Director of Student Lobbying, SGA, Arriona Tindell said. “We want everything to be more conducive than in the past, so more food and more entertainment.”
This carnival themed event will allow students to use one free ticket given to them at the designated SGA station, to recieve a free meal or item from independent local vendors such as: Leola’s Crab Shack, Smokey’s Barbecue, Diva Pop, and Fired Up Pizza to name a few.
Jasmine Taylor, a Junior Chemistry student, says, “The Taste of a Rattler helped me to know different local small businesses that I would have never known about as a freshman. I found new places to eat other than the most infamous ‘Olean’s Café’.” This event will feature many different varieties of food options for the soul.
Students will be able to retrieve a second ticket while the vendors’ promotional supply lasts. Vendors will be regularly functioning after 4 p.m.
Free Cotton candy and popcorn will be given out while supply lasts and bounce houses will be set up.
Raffles tickets will be drawn throughout the event to reward winners with tickets for the Homecoming Step Show, Concert ft. 21 Savage and 2 Chainz, amongst other small prizes.
“We expect the students to have fun. Why not eat for free at a FAMU Homecoming event? This is our way of giving back. In essence, there will be a lot of food,” says Alexys Lyn, Event co-chairman and Deputy of Communications, SGA.
Classes will still be during event hours, so pop in but make sure you are still attending your classes. Go Rattlers!
